Dubai, September 25, 2025: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has formally reprimanded Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav for controversial remarks made after India’s Asia Cup group-stage victory against Pakistan on September 14, according to media reports citing sources.
Yadav was reportedly cautioned to avoid political statements in the future following a hearing with ICC officials. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had earlier lodged an official complaint, alleging that the Indian skipper’s post-match comments politicised cricket and violated the ICC’s code of conduct on neutrality.
Sources said the PCB’s detailed letter urged the ICC to take strict action, arguing that Yadav’s statements went against the spirit of the game and damaged cricket’s reputation. The issue gained further traction as the much-anticipated Pakistan–India clash, already under intense scrutiny, was marred by the unusual absence of the traditional handshake at the toss, reportedly on the advice of the match referee.
India clinched the match by seven wickets, but Yadav’s remarks have continued to draw criticism, with pundits labelling them “unprecedented” and “detrimental to the spirit of the game.”
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has filed a formal complaint with the ICC against Pakistan players Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for their on-field gestures during the Asia Cup Super Four clash in Dubai last Sunday.
The BCCI’s complaint, submitted via email on Wednesday, pointed to Farhan’s animated celebration upon reaching his half-century and Rauf’s gestures toward fans at the boundary line. Both incidents went viral on social media, sparking widespread debate.
If the accused players deny the allegations, the ICC is expected to convene a hearing, with match referee Richie Richardson presiding. Andy Pycroft is also officiating as a match referee in the ongoing tournament.
Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan are scheduled to appear before the ICC governing body on Friday.
