Dera Ismail Khan, September 26, 2025: At least 11 people, including five women and a child, were killed and three others injured when a truck crashed in the Dana Sar Daranda area of Dera Ismail Khan district on Friday, Rescue 1122 confirmed.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmad Faizi said the accident occurred after the truck’s brakes failed. “Eleven people lost their lives and three were injured as the truck’s brakes failed, causing it to crash,” he told reporters.
The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, DI Khan, while seven of the bodies were taken there by Rescue 1122 teams and the remaining four by local residents. The victims have not yet been identified.
Police spokesperson Yaqoob Khan said efforts were underway to complete identification and arrange the handover of the bodies to their families.
According to officials, the truck had been travelling from the Khanozai area of Balochistan.
Deadly accidents are common on Pakistan’s highways due to speeding, reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance, and weak enforcement of traffic laws. Poor road conditions further contribute to the dangers.
The DI Khan crash is the latest in a series of recent fatal road accidents across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. On September 11, two women were killed and four others injured when a jeep plunged into a ravine in Mansehra. Just two days earlier, on September 9, five members of a family were killed in a collision on the Hazara Motorway in Haripur. In July, five people died in a car-truck collision on Chashma Road in DI Khan district.
