Islamabad, October 27, 2025: Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira announced on Monday that the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had reached an agreement to jointly table a no-confidence motion against the government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Addressing a joint press conference alongside Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah, Kaira said both parties had concluded that the current Chaudhry Anwarul Haq-led coalition government had “become a source of crisis instead of solving problems.”

He added that the federal government had twice intervened to resolve political tensions in the region. “Now there is a consensus that a no-confidence motion will be brought, and the PPP and PML-N will move together,” Kaira said.

The PPP leader noted that while the PML-N had already decided to sit in the opposition, his party respected the decision in the interest of stability and democratic process. “We want to ensure better governance, political stability, and free and fair elections so that the true representatives of AJK can form their government,” he added.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said the existing setup in AJK had been “completely unsuccessful” in meeting its responsibilities. “Our commitment to the people of Kashmir was good governance and prosperity. For that, it is now inevitable that the current setup be changed through a no-confidence motion,” he stated.

Rana Sanaullah echoed the criticism, saying the AJK government’s failure to deliver created a political vacuum and deepened the crisis. “Whichever government is formed next must serve the people and ensure credible, fair, and free elections,” he said.

Political uncertainty in AJK has continued to deepen. Earlier this month, 10 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers joined the PPP, raising its strength in the 53-member Legislative Assembly to 27 — the simple majority required to form a new government.
