Islamabad, December 4, 2025: Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan on Thursday reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional peace and stability, urging the Afghan Taliban administration to honor its international obligations and address Pakistan’s security concerns by taking “concrete and verifiable action” against terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil.
The two sides held wide-ranging delegation-level talks at the Prime Minister’s House, led by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov Nurgozhoevich.
Both leaders underscored that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was vital for regional development and reiterated their call for the Taliban authorities to uphold their commitments to the international community. They emphasized that all outstanding disputes in the region must be resolved peacefully in line with international law, the UN Charter, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The situation in Gaza also came under discussion. Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis and reiterated their unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of a sovereign, viable, and contiguous Palestinian state based on pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to strengthening its longstanding ties with Kyrgyzstan, noting that bilateral relations were rooted in shared history, cultural affinity, and a common vision for regional peace and prosperity. He stressed Pakistan’s resolve to expand engagement with Central Asian states under the “Vision Central Asia” policy.
Both sides reviewed progress on existing cooperation frameworks and agreed to broaden collaboration in trade, energy, connectivity, education, and people-to-people contacts. They set a target of USD 200 million in bilateral trade by 2027–28, committing to a result-oriented approach and effective implementation of agreements and memoranda of understanding. The leaders expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the Fifth Kyrgyz-Pakistan Joint Intergovernmental Commission meeting held in Islamabad on July 28–29, 2025.
Energy cooperation remained a key priority. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to the timely and effective implementation of the CASA-1000 energy project, describing it as a cornerstone of regional power connectivity between Central and South Asia.
The leaders also stressed the importance of secure, sustainable, and diversified trade routes. They welcomed the operationalization of the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan road corridor under the Quadrilateral Traffic in Transit Agreement (QTTA), calling it an important step toward enhancing regional commerce.
Following the talks, Shehbaz Sharif and President Zhaparov witnessed the signing of 15 MoUs and agreements across a broad range of sectors, including energy, mining, trade, agriculture, culture, tourism, education, and law and justice.
Earlier, President Zhaparov was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Prime Minister’s House, where a contingent of the Pakistan Armed Forces presented a guard of honour. The prime minister also hosted a luncheon in his honour, and both leaders addressed a joint press conference to brief the media on the outcomes of their discussions.
