Islamabad, January 9, 2026: Ambassador-designate of Pakistan to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Major General Khurram Sarfraz Khan (Retd), on Thursday held a meeting with President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Sardar Tahir Mehmood, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and business-to-business (B2B) linkages between the two brotherly countries.

During the meeting, both sides observed that Pakistan–Jordan relations were witnessing renewed vigor, supported by enhanced high-level exchanges and strong mutual goodwill. They emphasized the growing importance of strengthening B2B cooperation through the exchange of business delegations and increased people-to-people contacts.

Ambassador Khurram Sarfraz Khan highlighted that the 10th session of the Pakistan–Jordan Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) is scheduled to be held in Islamabad on February 4–5, 2026, describing it as a key platform to advance multifaceted cooperation, particularly in economic and trade sectors. He noted that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Jordan stood at around US$51.29 million in 2024, which he said was far below its true potential. He assured ICCI of his full support in efforts to enhance economic ties between the two countries.

In his welcome remarks, ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood said the existing trade volume did not reflect the actual potential of the two economies. He stressed the need for closer coordination between the business communities of both countries through their respective chambers of commerce. He assured the ambassador-designate that ICCI would actively facilitate B2B meetings, business delegations and business opportunity conferences to promote joint ventures and mutually beneficial partnerships.

Highlighting priority sectors for collaboration, the ICCI president identified pharmaceuticals, agriculture and agro-based products, food processing, textiles and garments, leather goods, IT and IT-enabled services, construction materials, engineering goods, renewable energy, tourism and hospitality, education, and healthcare as promising areas for enhanced cooperation.

Senior ICCI office-bearers, including Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub, Vice President Irfan Chaudhry and Executive Member Mian Shaukat Masood, emphasized the need for effective dissemination of information on trade and investment opportunities, regulatory frameworks and facilitation mechanisms to attract Jordanian investors.

Convener of the ICCI Sister Cities Initiative Committee, Sajid Iqbal, briefed participants on the committee’s initiatives aimed at exploring new business avenues, fostering city-to-city cooperation and strengthening institutional linkages with international partners.

Former ICCI President Mohammad Ejaz Abbasi, Executive Members Imran Minhas, Zulqurnain Abbasi, Ishaq Sial and ICCI Member Israr-ul-Haq Mashwani were also present. The meeting concluded with a consensus on maintaining close coordination to translate goodwill into tangible trade and investment outcomes for both countries.
