Islamabad, January 22, 2026: The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works, chaired by Senator Nasir Mehmood, convened on Thursday to review pending issues regarding the non-payment of salaries to former Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD) employees and examine ongoing matters related to Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) projects. The meeting was attended by Senators Hidayat Ullah Khan, Abdul Shakoor Khan, Bilal Ahmed Khan, Khalida Ateeb, Husna Bano, Jan Muhammad, and Senator Shahadat Awan, who had moved a starred question on the issue.

The Committee expressed serious concern over the financial hardships faced by 253 absorbed employees who have not received salaries since July 2025. The Secretary Housing informed the Committee that 89 percent of absorbed employees are receiving their salaries, but delays persist due to pending budgetary allocations. The Finance Division confirmed that funds will be released once requests are received from departments such as the Intelligence Bureau. The Chairman directed all concerned departments to submit a detailed report and assured full support to the affected employees.

The Committee also reviewed the non-vacation of government accommodations by retired officials. It was reported that four accommodations had been vacated following prior Committee interventions, with the remaining expected to be cleared soon. The Chairman called for stern action and a compliance report at the next meeting.

During discussions on FGEHA projects, concerns were raised over the Lifestyle Residency Project, including delays in completion, accountability of the FGEHA Board, and whether it is the government’s responsibility to provide housing for retired officials. The Secretary Housing assured the Committee that Expressions of Interest (EOI) will be called by March 2026 and that no new projects will be initiated until ongoing ones are completed.

The Committee also addressed issues at PHA-F Residencia, Kurri Road, Islamabad, directing allottees and PHA management to engage directly to resolve pending matters. Residents were instructed to obtain completion certificates from CDA and PHA and report back once resolved.

The Committee’s deliberations underscored its commitment to protecting employees’ rights, ensuring accountability in housing projects, and resolving citizen grievances in the federal housing sector.
