Islamabad, February 2,2026: The British High Commission Pakistan hosted a warm and celebratory Welcome Home Reception for the 2024–25 Chevening and Commonwealth Scholars, marking their successful completion of postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.
This year, 83 scholars returned to Pakistan after completing prestigious UK government-funded awards, including 42 Chevening Scholars and 41 Commonwealth Scholars. The returning cohort comprised 19 Master’s scholars, 15 PhD scholars, and 14 Split-Site PhD scholars.
The event recognized the scholars’ academic achievements, international exposure, and leadership potential, while also celebrating their reintegration into Pakistan’s growing alumni community. The reception brought together returning scholars, senior alumni, and leadership from across the British High Commission, providing an opportunity to network, reconnect, and explore avenues for future collaboration and national impact.
Sharing her experience, Chevening scholar Sameen Nadeem said the programme had expanded her understanding of what she could achieve and how to create meaningful impact. She noted that the skills she gained, including community engagement, leadership, and open-mindedness, had strengthened her confidence to make a difference, adding that she was eager to join the global Chevening network to help address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
Addressing the gathering, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott CMG OBE said the Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships embodied the strength of the UK–Pakistan partnership. She highlighted that each year talented Pakistanis study at leading UK universities and return home with new ideas, global networks, and the confidence to lead.
“This is true brain gain — scholars bringing their expertise home to strengthen Pakistan’s institutions, drive innovation, and uplift their communities,” she said. “Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships are investments in Pakistan’s future leadership, and we are incredibly proud of this year’s returning cohort.”
