Islamabad, February 7, 2026: Pakistan and Canada held the 6th Round of Bilateral Political Consultations in Islamabad on Saturday, reaffirming their commitment to further strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Ambassador Nabeel Munir, Special Secretary (United Nations), along with the Director General (Americas). The Canadian side was represented by Ambassador Weldon Epp, Assistant Deputy Minister (Indo-Pacific) at Global Affairs Canada, and Canada’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Tarik Ali Khan.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over the steady growth of bilateral relations, highlighting recent substantive engagements between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister and the Canadian Foreign Minister. They noted that these interactions had provided strategic direction and renewed momentum to the partnership.

Acknowledging the significant untapped potential in their relationship, the two countries agreed to enhance the implementation of existing agreements while exploring new avenues for collaboration. They stressed the importance of strengthening trade and economic ties, supporting business communities, facilitating trade delegations, and improving institutional linkages.

Key areas identified for future cooperation included trade and investment, agriculture and agri-tech, mining and minerals, energy, climate change, artificial intelligence, information and communications technology, skilled workforce development, education and research, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides underscored the vital role of investment in achieving sustainable and mutually beneficial growth and agreed to encourage private sector participation in emerging opportunities.

The consultations also featured an exchange of views on the evolving regional and global landscape, as well as discussions on important multilateral issues of mutual interest.

Pakistan and Canada agreed to maintain regular consultations and expressed confidence that continued engagement would pave the way for further progress in their bilateral partnership.
