Thatta, February 27, 2026: Denmark has reaffirmed its commitment to climate resilience along Pakistan’s southern coast as the Danish Ambassador, Maja Derrous Mortensen, visited climate-affected communities in Thatta and Sujawal districts of Sindh.

During her visit to Thatta and Sujawal, the ambassador met local residents benefiting from the Danish-funded Sindh Coastal Resilience Integrated Programme (SCRIP). The initiative is being implemented by the Aga Khan Development Network and focuses on strengthening the adaptive capacity of vulnerable coastal populations facing rising sea levels, salinity intrusion, and extreme weather events.

The programme supports communities in protecting their livelihoods through climate-smart interventions, improved natural resource management, and enhanced local resilience planning.

Officials accompanying the visit highlighted the remarkable role of women in these coastal areas. Despite harsh environmental and socio-economic conditions, women are playing a central role in sustaining households, supporting community networks, and driving local adaptation efforts.

The visit underscored Denmark’s broader partnership with Pakistan on climate action, with a particular emphasis on community-led resilience and the empowerment of women in frontline climate zones.
