Islamabad, November 4, 2024 – Acting President and Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to tackling climate change, describing it as one of the country’s most urgent challenges. Speaking at the opening of a climate conference in Islamabad on Monday, Gillani emphasized the need for a steadfast commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), noting that climate change poses a significant obstacle to sustainable progress and requires coordinated global action.
“Pakistan has aligned its national development agenda with the SDGs, and our Parliament stands as the first to transition to environmentally friendly energy,” Gillani stated, underscoring Pakistan’s dedication to integrating climate action into policy.
He also highlighted the expanding role of artificial intelligence in governance and other sectors, stressing the critical need for effective measures to ensure food security. Gillani further underscored the importance of empowering women through equal opportunities, recognizing them as key partners in the sustainable development process.
