Dushanbe, March 27, 2026: The 4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development” (2018–2028) will be held from May 25 to 28 in Dushanbe, bringing together global stakeholders to address the escalating water crisis.
Water, a vital resource linking people, ecosystems, and the planet, is increasingly under threat worldwide due to floods, droughts, pollution, and the rapid melting of glaciers. Against this backdrop, Tajikistan has played a leading role in advancing the international water agenda for over two decades, spearheading key United Nations initiatives and resolutions, including the ongoing global decade on water for sustainable development.
The upcoming conference is expected to serve as a major platform for governments, international organizations, scientists, youth, and civil society to accelerate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6 and other water-related targets outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Participants will focus on strengthening international cooperation and mobilizing concrete actions to tackle global water challenges while advancing the implementation of water-related Sustainable Development Goals.
The conference will also play a pivotal role in preparations for the upcoming UN Water Conference in 2026, as well as consultations for the 2028 edition, which is also scheduled to be hosted by Tajikistan.
Organizers have invited the global community to join the event in Dushanbe, emphasizing that sustainable water management is essential for securing the future of life on Earth.
