Rawalpindi, April 2, 2026: Security forces killed eight militants during an intelligence-based operation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in North Waziristan, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday.

The military’s media wing said that on April 1, security forces detected the movement of a group of militants—referred to as “khwarij”—in the border area of North Waziristan district. Troops engaged the group effectively, resulting in the killing of eight militants after what ISPR described as a “precise and skillful” operation.

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the slain militants, who were alleged to be affiliated with an Indian-sponsored proxy group, identified as “Fitna al Khwarij.”

The ISPR statement reiterated concerns over border management, stating that the incident highlights what it termed the failure of the Afghan authorities to prevent the use of their territory for militant activities against Pakistan. It urged the Afghan interim government to fulfill its responsibilities in ensuring that its soil is not used for cross-border terrorism.

Security forces have launched a sanitization operation in the area to eliminate any remaining militants. The statement added that Pakistan’s armed forces, in coordination with law enforcement agencies, remain committed to continuing counterterrorism efforts under the ongoing campaign “Azm-e-Istehkam,” aimed at eradicating foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
