Islamabad, July 14, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in addressing global challenges during a meeting with Michelle Bachelet, a candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary-General.
Michelle Bachelet called on the prime minister at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch were also present during the meeting.
Welcoming Bachelet to Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed the importance of strengthening the United Nations and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting effective multilateral cooperation.
He called for upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, ensuring the faithful implementation of United Nations resolutions and international treaties, and achieving balanced progress across the organisation’s three core pillars—peace and security, development, and human rights.
The prime minister also underscored the need for enhanced international cooperation and greater efforts to accelerate the implementation of the global development agenda.
Michelle Bachelet appreciated Pakistan’s historic and longstanding contributions to the United Nations and commended the country’s continued role in promoting regional and international peace and security.
