Rawalpindi, August 28, 2026: Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi, has offered fellowship opportunities to Yemeni research scholars under the COMSTECH-CCoE Yemen Programme as part of efforts to strengthen academic and scientific collaboration between Pakistan and Yemen.
A high-level meeting was held at FJWU on Thursday to discuss opportunities for Yemeni scholars and develop a comprehensive framework for academic and institutional support.
FJWU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza welcomed Ambassador of Yemen Muhammad Motahar Alashabi, Educational and Consular Advisor at the Embassy of Yemen Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Salehi, Coordinator CCoE and Outreach at OIC-COMSTECH Muhammad Murtaza Noor, and Senior Programme Manager OIC-COMSTECH Ikram Abbasi.
The participants discussed a range of support measures for Yemeni research scholars, including accommodation, tuition fee waivers, access to research facilities, faculty supervision and other academic facilities at FJWU. COMSTECH will facilitate travel and programme administration arrangements under the initiative.
The meeting was also attended by FJWU Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean Faculty of Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Azra Yasmin, Director Academics Dr. Akifa Imtiaz, Registrar Naseem Akhtar and Director ORIC Dr. Hashaam Akhtar.
The initiative is aimed at providing Yemeni scholars with opportunities to pursue advanced research and academic work in Pakistan while promoting institutional linkages between universities and research organisations of the two countries.
COMSTECH, a specialised institution of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), works to strengthen scientific and technological capacity across OIC member states through research grants, training programmes, fellowships and other capacity-building initiatives.
Its fellowship programmes include the COMSTECH-Yemen Programme, COMSTECH-Palestine Programme and Science in Exile Programme, along with various country-specific initiatives aimed at supporting researchers and strengthening scientific cooperation among OIC member states.
