Rawalpindi, August 6, 2026: Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, called on Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Thursday, where the two sides discussed regional security and measures to expand bilateral defence cooperation.
The high-level Somali delegation held detailed discussions with the Pakistan Army chief on matters of mutual interest, evolving regional security dynamics and ways to further strengthen defence and security collaboration between the two countries.
Both sides underscored the importance of enhancing military-to-military relations and expanding capacity-building initiatives to address common security challenges and promote regional stability.
During the meeting, the Somali defence minister appreciated Pakistan’s steadfast support for Somalia and acknowledged the professional role played by the Pakistan Armed Forces in promoting peace and stability in the region.
Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Somalia in strengthening its security institutions and enhancing defence capabilities, while expressing Islamabad’s continued support for efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
