Doha, January 16, 2025: A ceasefire agreement has been finalized between Hamas and Israel to end the Gaza conflict, announced Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The agreement, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, will take effect on January 19 and includes provisions for a phased implementation.

Key Details:

  1. Humanitarian Aid: The first phase will prioritize delivering aid to the Gaza Strip and addressing the needs of displaced civilians.
  2. Prisoner Exchange: Hamas will release 33 Israeli prisoners, including soldiers and civilians, while Israel will release Palestinian detainees, including those imprisoned for over 15 years.
  3. Troop Withdrawal: Israeli forces will gradually withdraw from civilian areas in Gaza during the initial six-week ceasefire phase.
  4. Monitoring: Qatar, Egypt, and the U.S. will oversee the agreement’s implementation to prevent further conflict.

The 15-month conflict, which began in October 2023, has left over 46,000 dead and thousands displaced. U.S. President Joe Biden and other leaders emphasized the significance of the ceasefire in ending hostilities and increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza. Both parties aim to progressively implement all three phases of the agreement, ensuring peace and stability in the region.
