Islamabad, February 23, 2025: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has announced the results of its elections, with Afzal Butt elected unopposed as President. Additionally, Jamshaid Rizwani, Javed Asghar, Shahid Chaudhry, and Noor Elahi Bugti have been elected as Assistant General Secretaries. The elections followed a three-day BDM meeting of the PFUJ, the country’s largest representative body of journalists. Afzal Butt, Arshad Ansari, and Saeed Jan (Lala Asad Pathan) have been elected for a two-year term.

Election Committee Chairman Iqbal Jafri announced that a total of 262 candidates had submitted nominations for various positions, however, after mutual consultation, all opposing candidates withdrew their nominations, leading to the entire panel being elected unopposed.

The 25 elected members of the FEC include Abdul Rehman (Lala Rehman), Ali Raza Alvi, Ijaz Maqbool, Ayub Jan Sarhandi, Anwar Raza, Haroon Khalid, Fauzia Shahid, Imtiaz Khan Faran, Ehsan-ul-Haq, Muhammad Amir Shehzad, Khursheed Abbasi, Mian Sabih-ur-Rehman, Makhdoom Ahmed Bilal, Nadeem Javed, Muhammad Iqbal, Nasrullah Waseer, Nasir Zaidi, Rana Shafiq Khan Pasrori, Qadeer Sikandar, Saleem Shahid, Rauf Man, Shehzada Zulfiqar, Shafiq Awan, Nazar Abbas, and Umair Yasir.

Following the announcement of results, jubilant supporters celebrated with chants and garlanded the elected candidates with flowers.
