New Delhi, March 13, 2025: A British woman who traveled to Delhi to meet a man she befriended on Instagram was allegedly raped by him at a hotel in Mahipalpur, located in the Vasant Kunj area of southwest Delhi.

Delhi Police confirmed on Thursday that the accused, identified as 25-year-old Kailash, and his acquaintance, Wasim, have been arrested. Kailash faces charges of rape, while Wasim, who works as a housekeeper, has been booked for molestation.

According to police reports, the assault took place on Tuesday night after the woman and Kailash had dinner and drinks together. The victim, who arrived in India on March 7 for a vacation in Maharashtra and Goa, had invited Kailash to join her in Mumbai. However, he declined and instead persuaded her to visit Delhi, where she checked into a hotel on March 11.

When she called Kailash to meet her at the hotel, he arrived with Wasim. The alleged assault occurred later that night. Police said that when the woman resisted Kailash’s advances, he called in Wasim, who then molested her.

The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when the victim visited a hospital for a medical examination. Hospital staff subsequently informed the Vasant Kunj North police station about the assault, leading to the arrest of both accused later that day.

Police officials revealed that Kailash, an unemployed resident of Vasundhara-Mayur Vihar, had studied only up to Class 12 and could not speak English. He allegedly used Google Translate to communicate with the victim, translating his Hindi messages into English to impress her on social media.

During the investigation, police recovered chat records between the woman and Kailash. Authorities also notified the British High Commission regarding the incident.

Both suspects have been remanded into custody as the investigation continues.
