Six terrorists killed in Bannu operation: ISPR

Bannu, April 25, 2025: At least six terrorists were killed and four others wounded in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) carried out by Pakistani security forces in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Friday.

The operation was launched following credible intelligence about the presence of militants in the area. “Troops engaged the location and, after an intense exchange of fire, neutralized six terrorists and injured four more,” the ISPR said, referring to the assailants as khawarij — a term used by the state for violent extremists.

A follow-up clearance operation is underway to eliminate any remaining threats in the vicinity.

The ISPR reiterated the military’s resolve, stating, “Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism from the country.”

Terrorist activity in Pakistan has surged over the past year, particularly in KP and Balochistan, after the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in late 2022.

According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, March 2025 marked a spike in violence, with more than 100 militant attacks — the highest monthly tally since 2014.

Pakistan was recently ranked second on the Global Terrorism Index 2025, as terrorism-related deaths rose by 45%, reaching 1,081 fatalities in the past year.
