New Delhi/Islamabad, May 10, 2025: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between India and Pakistan, bringing an end to recent hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. He confirmed that all military operations from both sides will be halted effective immediately.
According to Misri, the ceasefire took effect at 4:30 PM Pakistan Standard Time. He further stated that Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both countries are scheduled to hold formal talks on May 12 to reinforce the truce and discuss further de-escalation measures.
“The exchange of fire has been stopped on all fronts,” Misri said, adding that an understanding was reached earlier today between the military leadership of both sides to cease hostilities on land, sea, and air beginning this evening.
The announcement comes shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump declared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that India and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire. Trump emphasized that both countries had demonstrated wisdom and restraint in choosing diplomacy over conflict.
“In a major diplomatic breakthrough, India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate and complete ceasefire under U.S. mediation,” Trump wrote. “Both sides have acted responsibly and wisely.”
U.S. Secretary of State also commented on the development, stating that India and Pakistan will engage in broader negotiations at a neutral venue to address outstanding issues.
The ceasefire is being welcomed internationally as a step toward reducing tensions in South Asia, which had been escalating in recent weeks.
