Islamabad, May 10, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday night addressed the nation following the recent ceasefire agreement with India, declaring it a moment of national pride and a testament to Pakistan’s resolve, unity, and military strength.
“You have made it clear to the world that Pakistan is a self-respecting nation,” the Prime Minister said. “Our honour and valour are more precious to us than life itself. If challenged, we become an iron wall in defence of our homeland.”
Shehbaz Sharif lauded the armed forces for what he described as a “professional and effective response” to recent Indian aggression. “The enemy’s actions were cowardly and shameful—an open act of aggression,” he stated.
The Prime Minister condemned India for using the Pahalgam incident as a pretext to launch what he called an “unjustified war” against Pakistan. He noted that Pakistan had initially responded with restraint and had even offered an impartial, independent investigation into the allegations. “But in its arrogance, India chose to violate our sovereignty, targeting military sites, water reserves, mosques, and civilian areas,” he said. “Our patience was tested.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan’s retaliatory response was calibrated but forceful. “We responded to the enemy in the language it best understands. The negotiations that should have taken place at the table were instead answered on the battlefield.”
Praising the swift and decisive actions of the military, he said: “History will remember how Pakistan’s armed forces and air power silenced the enemy’s guns in a matter of hours. Their depots, airbases, and ammunition stores were reduced to rubble. India’s Rafale jets were rendered ineffective by the superior strategy and precision of our Air Force.”
He described Pakistan’s response as a defense of values, not just territory. “This was a victory of principles over aggression, of dignity over hatred and fanaticism. It is a triumph for the entire nation,” he said.
The Prime Minister thanked Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir for his leadership, and praised Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu and Pakistan Air Force personnel for their exemplary performance during the escalation. He also acknowledged PML-N President Nawaz Sharif for his guidance and President Asif Ali Zardari for his valuable consultations.
He extended gratitude to journalists and social media users for countering Indian disinformation, and thanked Pakistan’s allies—China, Türkiye, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia—for standing by the nation in its time of need.
“The blood of our brave soldiers boils at the enemy’s nefarious designs,” PM Shehbaz said. “But our unity, discipline, and resilience have shown the world that Pakistan will never compromise on its dignity or security.”
