Rawalpindi, May 18, 2025: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace, emphasizing that the nation does not seek conflict and has responded to recent Indian provocations with responsibility and restraint.

Speaking in an interview with RT Arabic, Lt Gen Chaudhry stated, “Pakistan is not a violent nation. Our foremost priority is peace.” His remarks come in the wake of a sharp escalation in tensions between Pakistan and India following Indian airstrikes on May 6–7 targeting areas in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), which resulted in the deaths of over 30 civilians.

In response, Pakistan shot down five Indian fighter jets and intercepted several drones. The situation further escalated after Indian strikes on Pakistani military positions on May 9, prompting Pakistan to launch Operation Bunyan Marsoos—a targeted military operation aimed at Indian military installations while deliberately avoiding civilian infrastructure.

Lt Gen Chaudhry revealed that the eventual ceasefire was initiated at the request of an Indian defense official and brokered through American mediation. He lauded Pakistan’s diplomatic conduct during the crisis, describing it as mature and responsible.

The DG ISPR also criticized New Delhi’s refusal to allow a neutral investigation into the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), for which India hastily blamed Pakistan without evidence. “India rejected a logical and impartial probe and instead resorted to missile strikes on civilian areas,” he said.

He further accused India of sponsoring terrorism within Pakistan, particularly through militant groups active in Balochistan.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s resolve, Lt Gen Chaudhry concluded that the country’s armed forces remain fully prepared to defend national sovereignty and will respond decisively to any act of aggression.
