Rawalpindi/Tehran, May 27, 2025: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), held high-level talks with Iranian military leadership during his visit to the General Staff Headquarters in Tehran on Tuesday.
The Pakistani military leader was warmly received by Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, with a ceremonial guard of honour presented by an elite contingent of Iranian forces. The meeting focused on critical regional security issues and opportunities to deepen bilateral defense cooperation.
During the discussions, both military leaders emphasized enhancing military-to-military coordination and improving security mechanisms along the Pakistan-Iran border. A key focus was exploring ways to transform the shared frontier into a hub for trade and economic connectivity, which would contribute to regional stability and mutual prosperity.
This visit comes as part of Field Marshal Munir’s regional tour accompanying Pakistan’s Prime Minister, which includes stops in Türkiye, Iran, and Azerbaijan. Earlier in Tehran, the Pakistani delegation held meetings with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Hosseini Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, underscoring the strategic importance both nations place on their bilateral relationship.
The talks reflect growing efforts to address shared security challenges while capitalizing on economic opportunities in the border regions, marking a significant step in Pakistan-Iran defense relations amid evolving regional dynamics.
