London, June 9, 2025: Former Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Sana Mir was inducted into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame on Monday, becoming the first Pakistani woman to receive the prestigious honour.
Mir, an off-spinner who represented Pakistan internationally for nearly 15 years, is now the eighth Pakistani cricketer overall to be inducted, joining the ranks of legends such as Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Javed Miandad, Abdul Qadir, Zaheer Abbas, Waqar Younis, and Hanif Mohammad.
She is also just the 14th woman globally to be included in the Hall of Fame.
“This is quite an emotional moment for me,” said Mir. “It has been a long journey from playing cricket on the streets of Pakistan to standing here today. There was a time when there were barely any women cricketers in Pakistan — no role models, no structures. Today, there are so many inspiring female athletes carrying the flag forward.”
Mir made her international debut in December 2005 against Sri Lanka in Karachi. Over the course of her career, she played 120 ODIs and 106 T20Is, taking 240 wickets and scoring 2,450 runs, including three half-centuries.
Among her many firsts, she was the first Pakistani woman to top the ICC Women’s ODI Rankings and the first Asian woman to play 100 T20Is. She was also the first Pakistani woman to complete a century of ODIs and to be named Pakistan Cricket Board’s Cricketer of the Year.
Mir led the national side for eight years, during which she captained Pakistan to historic gold medals at the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games.
Her induction is being hailed as a transformative moment for women’s cricket in Pakistan, inspiring a new generation of female cricketers to aim for international recognition.
