Islamabad, June 10, 2025: The Federal Budget for the fiscal year 2025–26 will be presented in the National Assembly today (Tuesday). Parliamentary debate on the budget is scheduled to begin on June 13 and will continue through June 21.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will unveil the budget in the lower house of Parliament. Following his presentation, a copy of the Finance Bill 2025–26 — including the Annual Budget Statement — will be submitted to the Senate for further review.
The proposed budget is estimated at Rs17.6 trillion, slightly below last year’s outlay of Rs18.78 trillion.
This development comes a day after the release of the Economic Survey 2024–25, which highlighted measurable improvements in several key economic indicators. However, persistent challenges remain, particularly in the agriculture and manufacturing sectors.
According to the survey, the government has made strides in stabilizing the economy without resorting to short-term measures or “sugar rush” tactics. Efforts to shore up the external sector have also shown results. Nonetheless, the government once again fell short of achieving the critical structural reforms necessary to establish credible growth and attract sustained investment.
The country’s GDP growth rate stands at 2.7% — a level Finance Minister Aurangzeb described as “the right path toward sustainable growth,” aimed at avoiding past cycles of rapid expansion followed by sharp downturns. However, the figure falls short of the official target of 3.6% and has been met with skepticism from independent economists.
