Islamabad, June 13, 2025: In a significant blow to narcotics trafficking, the Airports Security Force (ASF) successfully intercepted a drug smuggling attempt at Islamabad International Airport, seizing nearly 900 grams of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, worth over Rs 1.25 crore on the international market.

According to official sources, the incident occurred during routine screening of baggage for a flight bound for Bahrain. ASF officers, acting on suspicion, closely examined a trolley bag that had raised red flags during scanning procedures.

Upon inspection, 888 grams of high-purity ice were discovered expertly concealed within the lining of the bag. The suspect, identified as Shoaib Ali, a Pakistani national, had employed deceptive packing methods in an effort to evade detection.

ASF officials acted swiftly, detaining the accused and securing the illicit substance. The matter was immediately handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) for further investigation. Shoaib Ali now faces serious legal consequences under Pakistan’s strict anti-drug laws.

Officials praised the vigilance of ASF personnel, emphasizing the importance of their proactive approach and the reliability of enhanced screening technologies deployed at the airport. “This operation reflects our firm commitment to protecting Pakistan’s international gateways from being used for illicit trafficking,” an ASF spokesperson said.

The seizure comes amid growing concerns over the rising abuse and smuggling of synthetic drugs like crystal meth in the region. Authorities have reiterated their resolve toa continue strengthening airport surveillance and inter-agency coordination to combat transnational narcotics operations.
