Islamabad, June 19, 2025: Dan Stoenescu, Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, paid a courtesy visit to the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) headquarters in Islamabad, where he held a productive meeting with Mr. Saeed Ahmed Shaikh, Director General of PBC. The dialogue centered on strengthening cultural and media cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Stoenescu underscored the pivotal role public broadcasting plays in fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchange. “I am pleased to meet you and express Romania’s interest in strengthening cultural and media ties with Pakistan,” he said. “There is great untapped potential for collaboration between Radio Romania (SRR)/Radio Romania International (RRI) and Radio Pakistan.”

The two sides discussed the development of a formal cooperation framework between their respective national broadcasters. Key areas of focus included content exchange in English and other languages, with RRI offering short radio segments featuring Romanian news, perspectives, and cultural insights and reciprocal broadcasting of Pakistani content in Romania to foster better understanding of Pakistan among Romanian audiences.

Ambassador Stoenescu also expressed strong interest in technical collaboration, particularly in Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) broadcasting. He praised Pakistan’s advancements in DRM technology and welcomed the opportunity to learn from PBC’s experience and infrastructure.

The meeting also addressed the importance of informing and engaging migrant communities, especially Pakistani workers abroad. Both sides explored the possibility of producing joint radio programs in Urdu, aimed at offering news, cultural content, and support services to overseas Pakistanis.

Ambassador Stoenescu emphasized the value of regional and multilateral media cooperation, noting that a successful partnership between PBC and RRI could serve as a model for other broadcasters across the Asia-Pacific region.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen institutional ties and explore concrete steps toward formalizing media cooperation between Romania and Pakistan
