Islamabad, June 26, 2025: Widespread monsoon rains lashed parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the past 24 hours, resulting in at least four fatalities and 19 injuries in rain-related incidents, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab.
In its latest damage assessment report, PDMA confirmed that two people were killed in building collapses in Okara and Bahawalnagar due to the poor condition of structures, while two others drowned in floodwaters in Jhelum. Thirteen houses were reported damaged or destroyed during the ongoing heavy downpours.
The PDMA warned that the current monsoon spell is likely to continue until July 1, with further rainfall expected across several districts.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, following directives from the Punjab Chief Minister, announced that the families of the deceased and injured would be compensated as per government policy. He also instructed local administrations to ensure quality medical care for the injured and urged citizens to follow safety guidelines during the ongoing weather system.
Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PDMA has issued a high-alert warning for potential glacier bursts, flash floods, and landslides in the province’s northern districts. The warning follows a forecast by the Meteorological Department predicting rising temperatures and heavy rainfall from Thursday evening through July 1.
High-risk areas identified include Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper Kohistan, Upper Dir and Swat.
District administrations in these areas have been placed on high alert and directed to take pre-emptive measures, including alerting local communities and preparing emergency response mechanisms. The PDMA has also cautioned about potential hailstorms, which could exacerbate the situation.
Authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather conditions and have urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable regions.
