Islamabad, August 10, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a telephone call on Sunday, congratulated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the signing of a landmark peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The prime minister lauded President Aliyev’s leadership in securing the deal and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Azerbaijan on this important milestone. He also acknowledged the role of US President Donald Trump in facilitating the accord and expressed optimism that it would pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
President Aliyev, in turn, thanked Pakistan for its consistent support on the Karabakh conflict. Both leaders voiced satisfaction over the current state of bilateral relations and agreed to further strengthen cooperation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz extended an invitation for President Aliyev to visit Pakistan, while the two are also expected to meet on the sidelines of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin.
