Islamabad, August 21, 2025: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has ruled out immediate plans for constructing an international cricket stadium in Islamabad.

Speaking to a private news channel, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa clarified: “There is currently no plan to construct a cricket stadium in Islamabad.”

He said the civic body is instead focusing on expanding sports infrastructure across the city. Work is underway on 25 cricket grounds and 25 football grounds to encourage youth participation in sports, he added.

Randhawa revealed that the F-9 Park ground is being upgraded with technical support from former cricketer Rashid Latif.

On the possibility of a future stadium, he confirmed that preliminary discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had taken place, but any decision would be based on expert consultation. “Experts will help us identify a suitable location for a cricket stadium in the capital,” he said.

The CDA chief underlined that all new cricket grounds would feature international-standard pitches and emphasized that promoting a variety of sports was a key priority to serve Islamabad’s growing population.
