Islamabad, August 26, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to accelerate rescue and relief operations in Punjab’s flood-affected districts following rising waters in the Sutlej River.

Chairing a briefing on the situation, the prime minister instructed the NDMA chairman to ensure the swift evacuation of stranded residents and their safe relocation. He also emphasized the urgent provision of food, medicines, and tents to the affected families.

Shehbaz Sharif further directed the Authority to intensify monitoring of the flood situation, particularly at Ganda Singh Wala, and to adopt protective measures to minimize damage. He called for close coordination between NDMA and the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to ensure a unified response.

The directives come as heavy flooding in the Sutlej River continues to threaten several downstream settlements, prompting large-scale rescue operations.
