Islamabad, September 4, 2025: The 77th meeting of the Capital Development Authority Development Working Party (CDA-DWP), chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, on Thursday approved a series of development projects aimed at improving water conservation, flood management, and sports facilities in the capital.

The meeting, held at CDA Headquarters, was attended by senior officers from the Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Division, Ministry of Interior, Finance Division, CDA Board members, project consultants, and representatives of relevant formations.

The CDA-DWP approved the construction of 100 new Rainwater Rechargeable Wells across Islamabad at a cost of Rs. 185.28 million, following positive results from a similar initiative in 2023. The wells will be built in green belts, open spaces, and other designated sites to raise groundwater levels and conserve rainwater.

In addition, 20 underground water tanks will be constructed at various locations to prevent wastage of rainwater. A budget of Rs. 1.404 billion was approved, with 10 tanks to be built in the first phase to store clean water from natural streams. Another 10 tanks will follow after evaluating initial results. Officials from WASA Lahore shared their expertise, citing successful implementation of such tanks in the provincial capital.

The body also approved the construction of 11 wetlands to scientifically treat polluted water before releasing it into natural streams, helping curb water pollution, protect biodiversity, and reduce flood risks.

To address flooding in low-lying areas, a new RCC sewer pipeline from Rawat T-Chowk to Soan River was approved at a cost of Rs. 88.74 million.

In line with the vision of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the CDA-DWP approved Rs. 513.47 million for upgrading sports facilities. The project includes the modernization of five cricket grounds and five football grounds with state-of-the-art amenities to promote healthy activities in the city.

Chairman Randhawa said the revenue generated from these facilities would be reinvested into their maintenance, beautification, and sports talent development programs.
