Lahore, September 9, 2025: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Rana Sanaullah has won the Senate by-election in Punjab, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results announced Tuesday.

The seat had fallen vacant after the disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ejaz Chaudhry following his conviction in the May 9 cases.

Polling was held at the Punjab Assembly from 9am to 4pm, with 251 votes cast in total. Only one ballot was rejected. Sanaullah, who required 181 votes to secure victory, comfortably crossed the threshold with a wide margin.

PTI’s candidate Salma Ejaz failed to secure any votes, as the opposition boycotted the by-election.

The results were formally announced by Provincial Election Commissioner and Returning Officer Sharifullah after the completion of counting.

With Sanaullah’s election, the PML-N has further consolidated its representation in the upper house, strengthening the ruling coalition’s position in parliament.
