Abu Dhabi, September 13, 2025: Bangladesh overcame a top-order collapse to set Sri Lanka a target of 140 in the fifth match of the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Opting to bowl first, Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka saw his decision pay off early. Bangladesh lost both openers Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon for ducks inside two overs, leaving them reeling at 2/0.

The slide continued as Towhid Hridoy (8) was run out in the fifth over and skipper Litton Das (28 off 26, 4 fours) departed in the 10th over to Wanindu Hasaranga, with the Tigers reduced to 53/5 in 9.5 overs.

Bangladesh’s innings was then rescued by a gutsy 86-run sixth-wicket stand between Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain, who steadied the ship with calculated batting. Shamim top-scored with 42 off 34 balls (3 fours, 1 six), while Jaker contributed a solid 41 from 41 deliveries (2 fours).

Sri Lanka’s bowlers dominated the early stages, with Hasaranga returning 2/25, while Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara picked up one wicket each.

Bangladesh eventually closed on 139/5 in 20 overs, giving their bowlers a modest but defendable total to work with.
