Sahiwal, September 22, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday inaugurated the electric bus service in Sahiwal, expanding the province’s modern public transport network after its recent rollout in Sargodha.

Earlier in the day, the chief minister visited a women’s camp in Bahawalnagar, where she observed women working on sewing machines, joined them in stitching, and interacted with children displaced by floods. She also shared a meal with flood-affected families before heading to Sahiwal.

At the inauguration ceremony, Maryam Nawaz said the service would provide affordable and dignified travel facilities to the people of Sahiwal.

“This service is completely free for students, women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. A special ramp has also been built on the buses for differently-abled individuals,” she said.

She announced that 30 electric buses had been allocated for Sahiwal, with a fare of just Rs20 for general passengers. Each bus is equipped with modern amenities such as Wi-Fi and charging ports.

Reaffirming her government’s focus on safe and inclusive transport, Maryam Nawaz stressed that women in particular would benefit from dignified and secure travel. She added that the initiative would gradually be extended to other smaller cities across Punjab.

The chief minister further noted that the ongoing projects reflect the development vision of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, highlighting her administration’s commitment to continuity and expansion of modern infrastructure.
