Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, October 3, 2025: A shocking murder case has shaken Dewas city after police recovered the decomposed body of 20-year-old Lakshita Chaudhary from a rented house in Vaishali Avenue Colony on Wednesday. Her hands and feet were tied, and she was still dressed in a garba costume.
Lakshita had been missing since September 29, when she told her family she was leaving for college but never returned. Concerned relatives later discovered her relationship with Monu Chauhan and filed a missing complaint at City Kotwali.
During the search, Monu misled the family through WhatsApp messages, pretending they were travelling together. However, on Wednesday he sent a chilling confession, admitting to killing Lakshita on September 29 and disclosing the location of her body.
Police broke open the locked room in a house rented by Monu and found Lakshita’s body near a water drum, covered with a bedsheet. The discovery sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood.
Monu, also known as Manoj Chauhan, later surrendered at City Kotwali police station. He confessed to being in a relationship with Lakshita for a year but suspected her of being in contact with someone else. In his statement, he claimed he drowned her in a water-filled drum in a fit of rage, tied her body, and fled the scene.
After the crime, Monu reportedly travelled to Ujjain, Delhi, and Bhopal before returning to Dewas to surrender. He was produced in court on Thursday and has been remanded in police custody until October 8.
Due to the body’s decomposed condition, it was sent to Indore for post-mortem by a medical board before being handed over to the family.
CSP Sumit Agrawal said, “A detailed investigation is underway into all aspects of the case, and further findings will be revealed soon.”
