Islamabad, November 7, 2025: The European Film Festival (EUFF) 2025 opens in Pakistan today, bringing a celebration of European cinema to Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore throughout November.
Hosted by the Delegation of the European Union to Pakistan and curated by Olomopolo Media, the fourth edition of EUFF will showcase 19 feature films and 10 short films from across Europe. The festival — free and open to the public — runs from November 7 to 23.
Screenings begin at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad on November 7 and 8, followed by the Karachi Film School on November 15 and 16, and conclude at Lahore’s Alhamra Arts Council on November 22 and 23.
Each city’s programme combines film screenings with live performances, artistic installations, and interactive sessions designed to encourage cultural dialogue.
Among the feature films for Islamabad are Behind the Curtain of High Mountains (Czech Republic), Without Air (Hungary), That They May Face the Rising Sun (Ireland), and The Olive Tree (Spain). The short film lineup includes Don’t Worry (Germany/Croatia), Thermostat 6 (France), and A Sunny Day (France).
A special focus this year highlights Portuguese cinema, featuring A Sea of Trash and Snu. Directed by Tania Paiva, A Sea of Trash documents the cleanup of Portugal’s coastline, while Patricia Sequeira’s Snu portrays a real-life story of love and political courage in post-revolutionary Portugal.
Beyond the screen, EUFF 2025 features creative spaces such as the “Wall of Fame”, “Auteur Ego”, and 360° camera experiences, alongside family areas like The Reading Nook and Kids’ Corner.
Supported by FM91, HUM TV, and HUM News, the festival partners with the Pakistan Film Society, Digital Development Lab, and Tasweer Ghar to expand audience engagement.
Organisers describe EUFF 2025 as a “cultural dialogue in motion,” connecting Europe and Pakistan through storytelling, empathy, and shared human experience.
