Multan, November 25, 2025: Ali Tareen, owner of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans, announced on Tuesday that he is stepping away from the team, ending his association with the popular south Punjab-based franchise.

In a statement on X, Tareen described his tenure with the Sultans as “one of the greatest honours” of his life, expressing gratitude to the fans, players, and staff. He said he had always reminded the team of the significance of representing a region known for its hardworking people.

Despite facing financial losses every season, Tareen said he never considered leaving. However, he stressed that if remaining involved meant compromising his principles, he would rather depart “with dignity” than continue under pressure.

Acknowledging that he “may not be everyone’s favourite,” Tareen urged fans to remember that the team belongs to the people of south Punjab and encouraged them to extend their support to the new ownership.

The move comes amid ongoing tensions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which has offered renewal contracts to five of the six PSL franchises, excluding Multan Sultans due to a dispute with Tareen. He has been an outspoken critic of PSL management policies.
