Moscow, January 4, 2026: Russia on Sunday strongly condemned what it described as an act of armed aggression by the United States against Venezuela, expressing deep concern over the escalation and calling for an urgent return to dialogue to prevent further deterioration of the situation.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Moscow said the actions carried out by the United States earlier in the day were unjustified and warranted clear condemnation. The ministry described the pretexts used to justify the operation as “untenable,” arguing that ideological hostility had overridden pragmatic engagement and any willingness to build relations based on trust and predictability.

Russia stressed that, under the current circumstances, it was essential to prevent further escalation and focus on resolving differences through dialogue-based mechanisms. The statement underlined that all parties with grievances against one another must seek solutions through diplomatic channels, adding that Russia stands ready to support such efforts.

Reaffirming its long-standing position on the region, Moscow emphasized that Latin America must remain a zone of peace, in line with the declaration adopted by regional states in 2014. The statement said Venezuela must be guaranteed the right to determine its own future, free from what it termed destructive, particularly military, external interference.

The Russian foreign ministry also reaffirmed solidarity with the Venezuelan people and expressed support for the course pursued by the country’s Bolivarian leadership, aimed at safeguarding national interests and sovereignty.

Moscow voiced support for statements by Venezuelan authorities and leaders of Latin American countries calling for the urgent convening of a meeting of the United Nations Security Council to address the situation.

The ministry further said that Russia’s embassy in Caracas continues to operate normally, taking into account the situation on the ground, and remains in constant contact with Venezuelan authorities as well as Russian nationals in the country. It added that there was currently no information indicating that any Russian citizens had been injured.
