Karachi, January 8, 2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday underscored the importance of authenticity and responsibility in writing, saying he began penning his own book, “Chahay Yousuf Say Sada”, during his time in jail.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the book launch ceremony of “Maeeshat Aur Parliament”, a compilation of economic columns authored by MNA Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig.
Addressing the gathering, Gilani said that while writing a travelogue may be relatively easy, documenting one’s life or experiences in the context of history requires courage, consistency, and truthfulness. He stressed that writers, particularly those chronicling public life, must remain mindful of the responsibility that comes with recording events for future generations.
Highlighting the interdependence of institutions, the Chairman Senate said that the economy and parliament must move forward together, as neither can be sidelined. He noted that national challenges are best addressed through collective thinking, dialogue, and shared experiences. Emphasizing the need for more literature on parliamentary affairs, he said such works would help the younger generation better understand Pakistan’s political landscape through the insights of seasoned practitioners.
Congratulating Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig on the publication, Gilani termed “Maeeshat Aur Parliament” a valuable and must-read contribution.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Baig said the book marked his 11th publication. He shared that over the past 23 years, he has written more than 1,000 columns focusing on governance, the business community, and economic issues. He also referred to his autobiography, “Limitless”, describing it as a reflection of his belief that there should be no limits to what it means to be a Pakistani.
The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the Consuls General of China and Iraq, the Consul General of Pakistan in Morocco, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, Sindh Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, senior PPP leaders Naveed Qamar and Nafeesa Shah, veteran writer Anwar Maqsood, journalist Huma Baqai, and other notable figures.
