Murree/Islamabad, January 12, 2026: Ahead of an expected spell of heavy snowfall, District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanvir, has placed the entire police force on high alert under the ‘Mission Safe Winter’ initiative, aiming to ensure public safety and smooth tourism during the winter season.

Addressing media representatives on Monday, the DPO said that all contingency arrangements have been finalized in view of the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy snowfall from January 17 to January 21. He said Murree’s security framework has been strengthened through a combination of advanced technology and enhanced field deployment, described as a “Digital and Field Shield.”

“Through the ‘DPO Direct’ initiative, we have bridged the gap between the police and the public,” Dr. Raza Tanvir said. “Murree is no longer just a tourist destination; it is now supported by a modern monitoring and rapid response system to prevent accidents and inconvenience.”

According to the police, District Police, Traffic Police and Safe City teams have been fully mobilized across Murree and adjoining areas. Strict monitoring is being carried out at all entry points to the hill station, while a comprehensive traffic diversion plan has been put in place to avoid congestion during peak tourist flow.

Safe City CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems are being used to monitor traffic and sensitive road sections round the clock. Patrolling has been intensified, particularly in landslide-prone areas and on steep slopes. Recovery cranes and salt-sprinkling machinery have been placed on standby in coordination with Rescue 1122, while additional police personnel have been deployed to manage the expected rush of tourists.

The DPO also issued a safety advisory for tourists and local residents, urging them to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy snowfall, keep fuel tanks full, use snow chains, and carry warm clothing, blankets, food, water and essential medicines. He advised motorists to keep at least one window slightly open if their vehicle is parked or stuck, to ensure fresh air circulation and prevent carbon monoxide buildup.

In a move aimed at strengthening accountability, Dr. Raza Tanvir formally launched the “DPO Direct” service, reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against professional misconduct. He warned that any inappropriate behavior by police personnel at checkpoints or police stations would not be tolerated.

Under the new service, citizens and tourists can report traffic problems, security concerns or complaints regarding police conduct directly to the DPO via WhatsApp at 0311-1177553 (messages only). For life-threatening emergencies, the public has been advised to immediately dial 15.
