Brussels, February 12,2026: Marking the International Day Against the Use of Child Soldiers, Belgium reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding children affected by armed conflict, emphasizing that every child deserves safety, education, and hope — never violence or exploitation.

In a statement issued on the occasion, Belgium highlighted the devastating impact of war on millions of children worldwide, many of whom face recruitment, exploitation, abuse, and sexual violence. The country reiterated its determination to work with the global community to end such grave violations and ensure stronger protections for vulnerable children.

Belgium continues to advocate for accountability by strengthening international partnerships and supporting mechanisms led by the United Nations and UNICEF aimed at exposing perpetrators and upholding children’s rights.

Stressing the urgency of collective action, Belgium underscored that no child should ever be forced into conflict or deprived of their innocence. It called on the international community to unite in protecting children’s right to grow, learn, and dream in peace.

“Children must not only survive — they must thrive,” the statement concluded.
