Islamabad, February 26, 2026: Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, accompanied by the First Secretary, met with Mr. Syed Hamid Ali, Special Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce in Islamabad the other day.

The meeting focused on strengthening Malaysia–Pakistan trade relations, particularly in the agricultural sector. The Pakistani side conveyed its interest in increasing exports of basmati rice and potatoes to Malaysia, citing strong production capacity and competitive pricing.

They also raised the matter of market access for Pakistani mutton exports and expressed hope for continued engagement on the issue. The High Commissioner noted that Malaysia’s import decisions are guided by domestic supply and demand considerations, as well as regulatory requirements.

He assured that the requests raised would be conveyed to the relevant authorities in Kuala Lumpur for further review. Both sides also exchanged views on the ongoing discussions to enhance the Malaysia–Pakistan Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA), with the next round of engagements expected to take place later this year.

The High Commissioner highlighted Malaysia’s continued commitment to strengthening business-to-business linkages, including through the presence of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) in Karachi. The meeting concluded on a positive note, reaffirming both countries’ shared interest in expanding bilateral trade and exploring new areas of economic cooperation for mutual benefit.
