Lahore, March 31, 2026: Lahore Qalandars have imposed a Rs1 million fine on their captain Shaheen Shah Afridi following an alleged breach of security protocol, the franchise confirmed in a statement.
The decision comes after reports emerged regarding an incident at the team hotel on March 28, where Afridi and teammate Sikandar Raza were accused of escorting four visitors into a restricted area despite resistance from on-duty security personnel.
According to a police official’s letter addressed to the chief executive of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the players had allegedly disregarded security directives during the incident.
In response, Lahore Qalandars initiated an internal review to ascertain the facts. The franchise acknowledged that an isolated incident had occurred but maintained that it had been “overstated in public discourse and amplified beyond its actual context.”
“While the matter arose from a misunderstanding rather than any deliberate attempt to violate established procedures, the franchise has taken a voluntary and proactive step in the interest of maintaining discipline and demonstrating accountability,” the statement said.
The franchise also confirmed that a detailed report, along with its findings, has been submitted to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Lahore Qalandars expressed appreciation for the role of security personnel in ensuring the safety of players and officials, while reiterating their commitment to strict adherence to established protocols.
The statement further noted that the incident had received “undue public attention,” which impacted the reputation of both the franchise and the PSL. It called for responsible reporting and emphasized the organisation’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and full cooperation with governing authorities.
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of player conduct during the ongoing PSL season.
