Islamabad, April 8, 2026: Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday welcomed the ceasefire between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, calling it a “significant milestone” for peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond.

Addressing the Senate, Gilani underscored that Pakistan has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy as the only sustainable path to resolving international conflicts. He described the ceasefire as a testament to the effectiveness of diplomatic engagement and a reflection of responsible global leadership working to prevent further escalation.

The Chairman paid tribute to Pakistan’s leadership for its proactive and coordinated diplomatic efforts, acknowledging the roles of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir in advancing peace initiatives.

He also appreciated the willingness shown by both Washington and Tehran to engage in dialogue, emphasising that such engagement is essential for fostering mutual understanding and long-term regional stability.

Highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach, Gilani commended the professionalism and dedication of the country’s diplomatic corps, noting their instrumental role in facilitating progress towards de-escalation.

While welcoming the development, the Chairman cautioned that sustained commitment, patience, and cooperation from all stakeholders would be essential to achieve lasting peace. He expressed optimism that the upcoming Islamabad talks would lay the foundation for durable stability, economic cooperation, and regional harmony, with continued support from the international community.

Before formal proceedings, the Chairman also informed the House of a significant cultural initiative—the presentation of Pakistan’s national anthem in a refined choral format by Romania’s renowned Madrigal – Marin Constantin National Chamber Choir.

Describing the initiative as a powerful symbol of enduring friendship, Gilani noted that Pakistan and Romania have enjoyed strong bilateral relations since 1964, rooted in mutual respect and cultural exchange. He extended gratitude to the Romanian government, people, and diplomatic mission for the gesture.

Earlier, Gilani inaugurated a pictorial exhibition at Parliament House showcasing over six decades of Pakistan–Romania relations. The exhibition, presented by the Romanian Embassy, featured rare photographs documenting key milestones since the establishment of diplomatic ties.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Chairman appreciated the efforts of Romanian Ambassador Dan Stoenescu and highlighted the importance of parliamentary and people-to-people connections in strengthening international partnerships.

“These photographs are more than images; they represent a living timeline of decades of friendship and shared aspirations,” he said.

The exhibition also included rare images of prominent leaders such as Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, whose diplomatic outreach helped lay the foundation of Pakistan–Romania relations.

The event was attended by senators, parliamentarians, diplomats, and dignitaries, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening bilateral ties and promoting cultural diplomacy alongside political engagement.
