Islamabad, April 9, 2026: Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador of the Ethiopia to Pakistan, called on Muhammad Junaid Anwar, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, to explore avenues for strengthening maritime cooperation aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and boosting bilateral trade.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations—the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan—to expand collaboration in the maritime sector. The discussions focused on promoting trade, investment, and institutional linkages between the two countries.

During the talks, both sides agreed to establish institutional cooperation, exchange delegations, and share technical expertise in the maritime domain. These initiatives are expected to further strengthen economic ties and unlock new opportunities for mutual growth.

Ambassador Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba briefed the Federal Minister on Ethiopia’s homegrown economic reforms, highlighting the country’s strategic importance and its connectivity with regional and global markets. He emphasized that Ethiopia highly values its relations with Pakistan and noted that enhanced maritime cooperation would play a pivotal role in promoting bilateral trade and investment.

In response, Minister Junaid Anwar assured the Ambassador of his full support in advancing collaboration in the maritime sector. He reiterated the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to deepening ties with African nations, particularly Ethiopia, as part of its broader strategy to expand economic diplomacy and strengthen South-South cooperation.

The meeting reflects the growing momentum in Pakistan-Africa relations and highlights the shared resolve of both countries to foster sustainable economic partnerships through enhanced maritime connectivity.
