Mirpur, June 11, 2026: Pacers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman starred with three wickets apiece as Bangladesh defeated Australia by five wickets in the rain-affected second ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday, sealing a historic first-ever ODI series win over the reigning champions.
With the result, Bangladesh took an unassailable 2–0 lead in the three-match series, with the final ODI scheduled to be played at the same venue on Sunday.
The match, reduced initially to 42 overs per side due to rain, saw Australia captain Josh Inglis win the toss and elect to bat first. However, the decision backfired as the visitors collapsed early, slumping to 0/3 inside two overs as Taskin and Mustafizur dismantled the top order, removing Matthew Short, Cooper Connolly and Matt Renshaw for ducks.
Australia struggled to recover from the early damage and were eventually restricted to 187/8 in their allotted overs. Captain Inglis attempted to stabilize the innings, contributing 34 off 38 balls and sharing useful stands with Alex Carey and Cameron Green before falling to Tanvir Islam in the 18th over.
Tanvir struck again in his next spell, dismissing Green for 81/6, as Australia appeared in deep trouble. However, a fighting 103-run partnership between Marnus Labuschagne and Xavier Bartlett revived the innings. Bartlett scored a quick 52 off 48 balls before being dismissed in the penultimate over, while Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 55 to guide Australia to a modest total.
Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman led Bangladesh’s bowling effort with three wickets each, with Mustafizur proving particularly economical, conceding just 27 runs in seven overs. Tanvir Islam supported with two wickets.
Following rain interruptions, the target was revised to 191 under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in a 41-over contest.
In reply, Bangladesh chased down the target with ease, reaching it with five wickets in hand and 36 balls remaining. An 86-run partnership between Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto laid the foundation for the chase, with both batters scoring 42 runs apiece.
After their dismissal in quick succession, Towhid Hridoy anchored the innings with an unbeaten 40 off 55 deliveries, guiding Bangladesh home in the 35th over. His composed knock ensured a comfortable victory and a landmark series triumph.
For Australia, Riley Meredith, Matt Renshaw, Cameron Green, Adam Zampa and Xavier Bartlett each claimed a wicket, but the efforts proved insufficient to prevent a series-clinching defeat.
