Conakry, September 10,2026: Guinea has reaffirmed its firm and consistent support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara and described Morocco’s autonomy initiative under its sovereignty as the only solution to the dispute.
The reaffirmation came during the 8th session of the Morocco-Guinea Joint Cooperation Commission, held in Conakry and co-chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Guinea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Guineans Living Abroad, Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté.
Addressing the opening session, Dr. Kouyaté said that the Republic of Guinea maintains its steadfast and unwavering support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara and Morocco’s sovereignty over the territory.
He further reiterated Guinea’s support for autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty as the sole solution to the dispute, in line with the initiative presented by Morocco before the United Nations Security Council.
The Guinean foreign minister said that the opening of Guinea’s Consulate General in Dakhla represented a concrete expression of the country’s principled position and reflected its strong solidarity with Morocco.
For his part, Nasser Bourita expressed the Moroccan government’s gratitude for Guinea’s continued and unconditional support, noting that Conakry has consistently backed Morocco’s position in regional and international forums.
Bourita also highlighted the significance of Guinea’s decision to open its Consulate General in Dakhla in January 2020, describing it as a strong demonstration of the close ties and solidarity between the two countries.
