London, June 30, 2026: Six-time champions Australia women’s national cricket team booked their place in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup with a commanding eight-wicket victory over the West Indies women’s national cricket team in the first semi-final at The Oval on Tuesday.
Australia will now face either South Africa women’s national cricket team or hosts England women’s national cricket team in the tournament final at Lord’s on Sunday.
After electing to field, Australia produced a disciplined bowling performance to restrict West Indies to 125/7 in their allotted 20 overs despite a late counterattack from Deandra Dottin.
West Indies captain Hayley Matthews top-scored with 30 off 28 balls and shared a 47-run opening partnership with Qiana Joseph, who made 16.
Following the early breakthrough, Shemaine Campbelle contributed 22 runs before being dismissed by Georgia Wareham in the 16th over.
Dottin, who suffered a pre-match injury scare, came in at No. 8 and provided late momentum with an unbeaten 26 off just 16 deliveries, striking four boundaries to lift the West Indies total.
Australia’s bowlers shared the workload effectively, with Ashleigh Gardner, Wareham and captain Sophie Molineux claiming two wickets each, while Annabel Sutherland picked up one.
In reply, Australia made light work of the 126-run target, reaching 127/2 in just 13 overs with 42 balls to spare.
Opening batter Beth Mooney anchored the chase with an unbeaten 61 from 36 deliveries, hitting eight fours, while Gardner provided excellent support with an unbeaten 35 off 20 balls, including four fours and a six. The pair shared an unbroken 63-run partnership to seal Australia’s place in another World Cup final.
For the West Indies, Chinelle Henry and Matthews claimed one wicket each, but their efforts were not enough to prevent the former champions from exiting the tournament in the semi-finals.
