Pakistan condemns drone attacks on Saudi oil pipeline

Islamabad, September 12, 2026: Pakistan has strongly condemned the “reprehensible” drone attacks on the East-West oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh and Madina regions, which caused damage to the pipeline and injured civilians.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Foreign Office said the attacks targeting civilian infrastructure were a flagrant violation of international law as well as the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia.

“These attacks pose a serious threat to regional peace, security and stability,” the Foreign Office said.

Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, security and prosperity of the Kingdom and reiterated its solidarity with the Saudi leadership, government and people.

The Foreign Office said Pakistan would continue making earnest efforts to contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.

Saudi Arabia temporarily shut down its East-West pipeline following the drone attack, which Riyadh and Baghdad said originated in Iraq. The 1,200-kilometre pipeline, a key route for transporting Saudi crude across the Arabian Peninsula, allows the kingdom to bypass the Strait of Hormuz.

The attack caused injuries and damage that Saudi authorities were assessing. Satellite images showed black smoke rising from an area of the pipeline south of Madina.

Saudi Arabia has so far refrained from retaliation following a request from the Iraqi prime minister, while warning that it reserves the right to take necessary measures to protect its interests. Iraq has also condemned the attack and launched an operation to identify those responsible.

The incident comes amid growing disruption to regional energy supplies, with tensions in the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz already affecting oil shipments and pushing global crude prices above $100 a barrel.

Four Yemeni government sources told Reuters that Houthi rebels had also seized the strategic island of Perim at the mouth of the Red Sea, raising concerns that the reported attacks could mark a further escalation of the regional conflict.
